Five

On our fifth anniversary in 2013, we went to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.  There was a beautiful room with huge glass windows to observe the vast canyon.  Sitting on a soft, comfy couch, I turned to Tiana and recited this poem to her from memory.  Then I pulled out an anniversary ring with five diamonds on a white gold band to give her for our five blissful years together.

Each line has five syllables and there are five stanzas in this ABAB poem.

Five

Look around us here
Vast and gorgeous scenes
It’s a glimpse my dear
What eternal means

Stars up in the skies
Rocks across the land
Sparkles in your eyes
Diamonds on your hand

Five by Sundance stream
Five in temple white
Five years like a dream
From an endless night

Five more give I now
Grateful for our past
Humbly I will vow
My love always last

Circle has no start
Love will never end
Tiana, my heart
You are my diamond
